Project Details

NEWFIELD as Operator will be developing Block PM323 offshore Peninsular Malaysia. The block partners are NEWFIELD and CARIGALI, via a 60:40 joint venture PSC agreement.

Two fields are identified within this block (i.e. East Belumut and Chermingat). FEED engineering has been performed to obtain the most optimized drilling/production facilities to tap the reserves from these two fields. The Belumut area is located approximately 260 km northeast of Terengganu) in about 70 meters of water. The East Belumut field is part of Block PM 323.

The development fields are located at Peninsular Malaysia offshore block PM323 in approximately 65–75m of water. The East Belumut Field is located approximately 30km East of the existing Tinggi-A Platform and the Chermingat Field is located approximately 20 km North of the East Belumut Field.

Full well-stream production from the Chermingat-A Wellhead Platform (CHR-A) is to be routed by 10” pipeline to the East Belumut A Central Processing Platform (BEL-A) with integrated facilities (wells, processing, LQ, compression).

Crude is to be pipeline exported via a 10” pipeline to the Tinggi – A Platform where it will utilize the existing crude export pipeline system. Gas produced at BEL-A will be used for Gas Lift and Injection Gas at BEL-A, and also be supplied as Gas Lift via 4” pipeline to CHR-A.

Future requirements for two additional locations, and gas export facilities shall be included in the design.

Both platforms shall be designed to a 20-year design life.
The schedule for first oil from East Belumut field is on or before 01 January 2008 with Chermingat following on or before 04 February 2008

Chermingat -A

Belumut -A

Platform description :
The East Belumut A platform will be an integrated production/drilling platform and Chermingat will be a remote wellhead platform.

Chermingat is a conventional tripod with 4 drilling slots and two pipelines. One pipeline will be used as export line to East Belumut and one more will be used to transmit gas lift from East Belumut to Chermingat. Custody transfer metering will be located on BEL-A platform.

East Belumut-A (BEL-A) is a drilling/process/accommodations platform for handling production from up to 20 wells on the platform itself plus incoming production from Chermingat (CHR-A) located approximately 20 km to the northeast.

BEL- A has a design capacity for 50,000 bfpd plus compression facilities to handle 60 mmscfd. The platform will be a four-pile design with a skirt pile support jacket structure. The jacket will support an integrated deck with process, compression and utilities. The design includes support for incoming and export pipeline risers, produced water treatment and disposal, boat landings and a 30-man accommodations module.

Design of both the jacket and deck will ensure they are capable of installation using derrick barges available in the region. The topside structure will be an integrated deck supporting three deck levels, heli-deck, flare boom and a crane.

The deck structure and pile design will accommodate either tender-assist drilling rig or jack-up rig operations and provides space for well servicing equipment such as coiled tubing units, wire line and electric line units.

Chermingat-A (CHR-A) has been designed as an unmanned, remote, minimum facilites location. The platform is a three-legged steel-insert-piled tripod structure with 4 well slots. The jacket design will include support for pipeline risers, oily water caisson and be provided with a boat landing. Drilling at the Chermingat location will be done using a Jack-up rig.

Scope of work undertaken by MMC O&G : 1) Conceptual Study
2) Front End Engineering Design

Stage 1:
·
To identify the best potential options for the field development and to generate a shortlist of feasible options, of which one will be carried forward to Stage 2 after development options evaluation. The key activities are Kick-off meeting and options brainstorming meeting for each platform facilities
Stage 2:
The key activities of Stage 2 are as follows:
·
·
·
Review / confirm validity of option selection in Stage 1
·
Identify operations and Maintenance philosophy
·
Develop Basic Design Engineering documents for all disciplines ready for EPCC bidding for both platforms.
·
Develop EPCC scope of work for Detail design, fabrication, commissioning and Offshore Installation contractor.
·
Develop cost estimate for the selected development scenario
